Dog Training in Santa Fe, NM

Life is good
when your dog
is good.

HI,

I’m David Crosby,

In the course of training and handling dogs for a living I had the humbling privilege of occasionally helping to save some lives, and more often, contributing to an improved quality of life for humans and dogs.

While training some remarkably capable and motivated scent-detection and SAR trailing dogs, working in canine rehabilitation, and helping pet dogs with behavioral disorders, I noticed a common factor in the success of these dogs that doesn’t ordinarily show up in most pet training; healthy dog-human relationships based upon sound ethological research.

I also noticed that in the majority of pet behavioral problems I was called to address, the common factor in the underlying problem was canine wellness and quality of relationship from the dog’s perspective. When we address the conditions for wellness and correct the human understanding of what the dog needs in order to be well, the training is enjoyable, almost effortless, and a natural extension of simply living life together.

Sounds simple, right? It is simple, but lacking knowledge and reliable information, it isn’t easy.

This website is intended to provide at least some of that information, knowledge, and resources to help you live a better life with your dog.

Nothing on this website constitutes advice. If you ever have any doubt or question about your dog’s well-being you should consult your veterinarian. If you ever have any doubt or question about your own ability you should consult a professional trainer. If you use any of the information on this website you do so solely at your own risk.

climb

a ladder

This dog has had an FHO meaning the head of her left femur has been surgically removed. The operation was not done skillfully, prior to rehabilitation this dog had great difficulty walking, and one rear leg is shorter than the other. After rehab she delighted in being the fastest dog in the dog park.

It takes a certain amount of training for a dog to learn how to climb ladders, a dog with an impairment, more so.

After very little training she climbed this ladder with no difficulty just because I asked her to.

Because of the quality of relationship, she is motivated.

What Clients Say

Mia's Story

Person: Mia Mundale

Our dog Bear started biting, and we were really concerned that nothing could be done about this; but we looked for a dog trainer and got David Crosby’s name from Next Door. It was amazing – David was able to ascertain the amount of stress Bear was under and how that was making him more anxious and volatile. By knowing that, he could 'train' us to use different strategies and cues with Bear,  and there’s been no biting since! David is truly a 'dog whisperer', and we recommend him highly.
